ESAHerschel: The final orbit for @ESAHerschel calculated by @ESAOperations has been released. Furthest from Earth on July 4, 2020 at 2.081AU.
ESAHerschel: The orbit ranges from next aphelion (14 Jan 2014, 1.0642AU).to next perihelion (29 July 2014, 1.0358AU), so always well outside Earth.
ESAHerschel: The next close approach to Earth is around midnight on Oct 4, 2027 at 7.46 million kilometres, if anyone plans to recover it for a museum!
ESAHerschel: This latest orbit allows astronomers to track where @ESAHerschel will be up to Jan 1st 2050.
ESAHerschel: At midnight last night @ESAHerschel was 2.598 million kilometres from Earth & receding at 352m/s & can be found in Ophiuchus.
